CBDT Issues Refunds Of Rs. 1,32,381 Cr To Over 1.19 Cr Taxpayers

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Thursday said that it has issued refunds of over Rs. 1,32,381 crore to more than 1.19 crore taxpayers from April 01 to December 06, amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Income Tax Department took to Twitter and wrote, “CBDT issues refunds of over Rs. 1,32,381 crore to more than 1.19 crore taxpayers from 1st April, 2021 to 6th December 2021. Income tax refunds of Rs. 44,207 crore have been issued in 1,17,32,079cases and corporate tax refunds of Rs. 88,174 crore have been issued in 1,99,481 cases.”


The total issued refunds also include 83.28 lakh refunds of Assessment Year 2021-22 amounting to Rs. 17,266.48 crore, the Income Tax Department mentioned in another tweet.

Meanwhile, more than 3 crore Income Tax Returns have now been filed on the new e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department as of December 03, 2021. The number of ITRs filed per day is over 4 lakh and increasing every day as the extended due date of December 31, 2021, is approaching, informed the IT department. 

According to the tax body, the Income Tax Return (ITR) filing has increased to 3.03 crore ITRs for AY 2021-22. A total of 58.98 per cent of these are ITR1 (1.78 crore), 8 per cent is ITR2 (24.42 lakh), 8.7 per cent is ITR3 (26.58 lakh), 23.12 per cent are ITR4 (70.07 lakh), ITR5 (2.14 lakh), ITR6 (0.91 lakh) and ITR7 (0.15 lakh).

Over 52 per cent of these ITRs are filed using the online ITR form on the portal and the balance are uploaded using the ITR created from the offline software utilities, the statement added.
